Makiwara Posts - martial arts striking posts and accessories

Welcome to the website of UK's only specialist makiwara post manufacturer. The makiwara (literally a straw target) is a traditional Okinawan training aid for perfecting the speed and focus of your strikes as well as for strengthening your striking weapons.

The most popular way of training with the seiken is to make use of a makiwara, a thick post covered with rice straw. The makiwara also, incidentally, may be used in strengthening the sword hand (shutō), the elbows and the knees. I think I am in no way exaggerating when I say that practice with the makiwara is the keystone in the creation of strong weapons.

Overseas Customers

I regret to inform overseas vistors to the site that I can no longer offer to ship heavier items (posts, bases and brackets) overseas. Hassles getting these items through customs and the exorbitant shipping costs (I've just been quoted £500 to send a post to the States!) means that that this just isn't a viable proposition any longer. I will continue to supply straw and leather target as well as DVDs to overseas customers, shipping these items hasn't proved a problem so far.

New products

You may already have noticed that I'm now selling a select range of karate DVDs. The makiwara training DVD and conditioning DVD are particularly relevant to karate-ka wishing to improve their technique, focus and overall conditioning using traditional Okinawan methods. I can also now supply a portable platform for mounting the makiwara for those who either can't secure them in a permanent location or need to be able to move the makiwara between locations.

Coming soon - Early Febuary 2008

I'm developing some new products for inclusion in the range in Febuary 2008. The details aren't quite finalised yet but I should soon be able to supply round split makiwara posts, adjustable armed posts, makiwara sticks (for conditioning), ishi sashi and chi ishi. Keep an eye out for them on the offers page.

I hope my website provides you with all the information you need, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be happy to discuss your requirements.
